On a tranquil Tuesday afternoon north of town, the small community of Aliceville, Alabama was shaken by tragic news: 57-year-old April F. Box lost her life in a two-vehicle collision, a devoted postal worker taken far too soon. The crash occurred shortly after noon on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, near the 190-mile-marker on Alabama State Highway 17—just about one mile north of Aliceville.

Witnesses said April was behind the wheel of a 1987 Chevrolet Grumman LLV mail vehicle when a 2007 Chevrolet 3500 pickup collided with her vehicle. The impact left no time for rescue – local deputies, state troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and medical personnel responded swiftly, but April was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and neighbors in Aliceville remembered April not just as a postal carrier, but as someone whose warmth brightened every day. She was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and the way she took care of her family, the people around her, and local activities. Her impact was more than the route she delivered – it was the friendship she offered at every stop, the smile she gave without fail.

The town’s mayor, Terrence E. Windham, issued a heartfelt statement, recognizing April’s dedication and her service to the community through her job. “We extend our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mrs. Box, a devoted United States Postal Carrier who gave her all in service to our community and passed away in the line of duty,” he said.

As the investigation continues into what caused the collision, the mood in Pickens County remains heavy. Officials with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division confirmed they are looking into the crash, though no further details about contributing factors have been released.

Funeral arrangements for April have not yet been announced, but what’s already clear is how deeply she will be missed. The chairs in her living room, the mailbox she served at, the waves she’d give neighbors as she drove past — all now carry echoes of someone whose presence meant something. Her legacy of love, care, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of the Aliceville community.

In the quiet sorrow following her passing, residents are reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing those we love. They are also reminded to stay mindful on the road – that every trip, every turn, every driver matters. And in memory of April Box, the town holds a space of gratitude for the gentleness she offered and the void her absence leaves.
