Alisha Cottman Obituary, Death; – Authorities in Atlantic County, New Jersey, have confirmed the identity of the woman who lost her life in a hit-and-run incident on Tuesday evening.
Police markings remain evident along the Black Horse Pike, where it is reported that a pedestrian was struck and fatally injured around 8:00 p.m. According to law enforcement, the driver fled the scene. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Alisha Cottman from Atlantic City, who was pronounced dead at the location.
“I simply looked out my window and noticed numerous lights; upon looking across the street, I saw a significant police presence and a body,” recounted Charles Swisher, a resident of a nearby condominium. The westbound lanes were closed for several hours near the Economy Inn while investigators conducted their work.
“They were searching for a long time for fragments of the vehicle,” stated Giuseppa Hermann, a local resident. Police later found the vehicle involved in the incident—a 2018 Jeep Wrangler—and apprehended the driver in Philadelphia. This incident marks not the first hit-and-run in this area.
In November 2023, along the same section of the Black Horse Pike, a 65-year-old man was also struck and killed by a driver who subsequently fled the scene. Residents living near the Black Horse Pike, adjacent to several motels, express concerns about the road’s navigability and the dangers it poses to pedestrians.
“Drivers tend to speed here,” remarked Hermann. “They should consider installing traffic lights or cameras along the Black Horse Pike, particularly in this vicinity,” suggested Swisher. Investigators continue to seek witnesses to the incident.
