The town of Amityville, New York, became famous (or infamous) because of a terrible crime and the scary stories that followed.

In November 1974, a family of six was found dead in their house. Ronald DeFeo Jr., who was 23 at the time, admitted to shooting his parents and his four younger brothers and sisters. He said he heard voices in the house telling him to do it. DeFeo was sent to prison, where he stayed until he died in 2021.

A year later, George and Kathy Lutz moved into the house. They said they experienced strange things, like green goo coming from the walls and spooky noises.

Their story became a book called “The Amityville Horror,” which was later made into a movie. Now, there’s another movie about the house in the works.

Some people think the Lutz’s story was made up. A real estate agent who sold the house later said it was a “hoax.” George Lutz admitted that some parts of the story were made more dramatic for the book and movie.
