LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The U.S. Department of Education sent a certification letter to school administrators across Kentucky earlier this month. It outlines updated Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies and asks administrators to acknowledge them by signing the letter. The letter is a “reminder of legal obligations … in exchange for receiving federal financial assistance.” It cites the federal Civil Rights Act, which prohibits state agencies receiving federal funds from denying access to programs based on race, color or national origin. However, it asks districts to agree not to engage in “illegal DEI practices,” but doesn’t explain what those…

It happened in the area of Wolfe Trace, near Lynn Road, which is not far from East Daisy Lane and Grant Line Road. A news release from New Albany Chief Todd Bailey said Andreas Bautista “shot his brother Antonio Bautista during an altercation.” A woman identified by…
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A judge declined to delay the May 27 trial of Steve Lawson, one of three defendants charged in the murder of Crystal Rogers, in order to perform DNA testing on two hairs found in her car in 2015. In a ruling Friday, Nelson Circuit Court Judge Charles Simms III wrote that even if testing identified who the hairs belonged to, it would not exclude Lawson’s possible involvement in the alleged murder. Lawson’s attorneys have argued the hairs could point to another possible suspect, including Nick Houck, the brother of Lawson’s co-defendant, Brooks Houck. But in his…

If some Colorado lawmakers get their way, a lot more drivers will be getting tickets instead of warnings for expired plates. The number of drivers with expired license plates has skyrocketed over the last few years, and some state lawmakers are fed up and are cracking down. They’re changing a decades old law that limits how police write tickets. Aurora City Attorney Pete Schulte, who is pushing for the change, said right now, officers who make a traffic stop can issue a municipal citation that’s handled in municipal court or a state citation, like an expired plate, that’s handled in county…
