The victim has been identified by Alabama troopers as Allen D. Reed. According to the troopers, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Reed’s 2005 Mercury Mountaineer veered off the roadway, collided with a ditch, overturned, and subsequently struck a tree on U.S. Highway 11. Authorities believe that early on Saturday morning, a high school student was shot and killed. At at 12:20 a.m. on February 1, officers responded to the 600 block of 8th Terrace West after a Shot Spotter alert was triggered, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
