An Australian newlywed tragically lost his life while on his honeymoon in Bali after drowning at a popular beach as his devastated wife watched helplessly from the shore. Jacob Vennix, a 32-year-old man from South Australia, and his new bride, 38-year-old Kimberly Ann Fuller, were celebrating their honeymoon at Pasut Beach, located about 30 kilometers west of Denpasar when the incident occurred around 3:50 pm local time on Monday.
The couple had been swimming in the estuary when Mr. Vennix was suddenly swept out into the choppy waters by a strong current, leaving Ms. Fuller stranded on the shore. Desperate to save her husband, Ms. Fuller frantically tried to get the attention of others nearby for help. In a moment of sheer desperation, she even grabbed a chair and attempted to enter the turbulent waters herself.
Reports indicate that a local fisherman came to their aid, rushing to rescue Mr. Vennix in his boat. Despite the fisherman’s efforts, the situation worsened when a large wave overturned the vessel, complicating the rescue attempt. Eventually, Mr. Vennix was carried back to shore by a wave, but he was found unconscious. Heartbreaking footage and images show bystanders performing CPR on him at the beach before emergency services arrived.
Mr. Vennix was rushed to Tabanan Public Hospital for further medical intervention, but tragically, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead. The couple had only just begun their life together, having tied the knot on December 21, a mere few days before the tragedy struck.
