Caleb Williams Shines as Bears Stun Cowboys 31-14; Pickens’ Frustration Boils Over

The Chicago Bears leaned on rookie quarterback Caleb Williams’ arm and creativity to take down the Dallas Cowboys 31-14 on Sunday. Despite a second-quarter touchdown from George Pickens, the Cowboys’ offense sputtered while their defense struggled to contain the Bears’ explosive passing attack.

    What Happened

With the Cowboys trailing in the fourth quarter, Dak Prescott targeted George Pickens on a short route eight yards downfield. The ball slipped off Pickens’ hands and into those of Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who made a highlight-reel diving interception.
Back on the bench, a visibly frustrated Pickens slammed his helmet to the ground. It was a low point in an otherwise solid night for the wideout, who posted five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The Cowboys also suffered a major setback when CeeDee Lamb exited the game with an ankle injury. Without their top target, Dallas’ offense couldn’t keep pace with Chicago’s firepower.

    Caleb Williams’ Breakout Performance

Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams delivered the best game of his young career, finishing 19-of-28 for 298 yards and four touchdown passes. He consistently burned Dallas’ secondary, showing poise in the pocket and extending plays under pressure.
The most electrifying moment came on a flea-flicker in the first quarter, when Williams stepped up to avoid defenders and launched a deep strike to Luther Burden III for a touchdown.

    Offensive Weapons Step Up

Chicago spread the ball around efficiently, with eight different players recording catches.

    • Luther Burden III: 3 catches, 101 yards, 1 TD

    • Rome Odunze: 1 TD reception

    • D.J. Moore: 1 TD reception

    • Cole Kmet: 1 TD reception

The balanced attack overwhelmed Dallas’ defense, which has now allowed 30 or more points in three of its last five games.

    Cowboys’ Struggles Continue

The Cowboys dropped to 1-2 on the season, raising questions about both their defense and offensive execution. The unit gave up explosive plays all afternoon and failed to adjust to Williams’ creativity. With Lamb’s injury and Pickens’ visible frustration, head coach Mike McCarthy faces mounting pressure to stabilize the locker room.

    What’s Next

Both teams now sit at 1-2 heading into Week 4. The Bears will look to build momentum behind their young quarterback, while the Cowboys aim to regroup amid injuries and mounting defensive woes.
