At approximately 9:23 a.m., first responders from Greensboro Police, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS were dispatched to a reported stabbing and gunshot wound incident at 2939 W. Vandalia Road.
Upon arrival, authorities located 25-year-old Darius Deshaud Goolsby in a breezeway, suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.
Life-saving measures were initiated, and Goolsby was transported to a local hospital.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. His next of kin have been notified.
Detectives and forensic investigators processed the scene and quickly identified a suspect, 25-year-old Jalen Xavier Burch.
Burch was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Goolsby’s death.
This incident marks Greensboro’s fourth homicide of 2025.
Speaking from police headquarters, Chief John Thompson addressed the city’s concerns regarding recent homicides.
“We recognize that community safety is on the minds of many across Greensboro. Please be aware that none of the four recent homicides are connected,” Chief Thompson stated. “Our team is following leads and has already made arrests in two of the four cases. One of these arrests is the result of significant collaboration between GPD and the community, and we are grateful for this support and partnership. We’re stronger and more effective when we work together to keep our neighborhoods and families safe.”
