David Dr Smith London Ontario Death: It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. David B. Smith, MD, a cherished physician, mentor, and pillar of the Southeast Texas community. Dr. Smith passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in April 2025 after a lifetime dedicated to service, compassion, and excellence in women’s healthcare. He was in his 60s.
For over three decades, Dr. Smith was a trusted name in Obstetrics and Gynecology, known not only for his medical expertise but for the warmth, empathy, and unwavering support he offered each patient who walked through his door. Since joining Southeast Texas OB/GYN Associates in 1994, he became an integral part of countless families’ lives—delivering generations of babies, offering reassurance through vulnerable moments, and empowering women with compassionate, informed care.
Dr. Smith completed his medical education at Baylor College of Medicine, one of the nation’s most respected institutions. After completing his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, he became board-certified and continued his commitment to medical excellence throughout his career. His passion for education extended beyond the clinic; as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Dr. Smith mentored and trained the next generation of medical professionals, imparting not only knowledge but wisdom rooted in experience and kindness.
His colleagues remember him as a consummate professional—measured, meticulous, and deeply empathetic. Patients often described Dr. Smith as someone who took the time to listen, truly listen, to their concerns. He believed that healing involved more than prescriptions and procedures—it required trust, respect, and genuine human connection.
Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Smith was a devoted community advocate and active member in several local health initiatives focused on improving access to quality care for underserved populations in Beaumont, Texas, and surrounding areas. He championed causes that elevated women’s health education and empowered young mothers with the tools they needed to live healthier, more informed lives.
His legacy is not just in medical charts or textbooks—but in the lives of the countless women and families he touched, in the grateful words of a mother he comforted, the strength he gave to a patient facing a difficult diagnosis, and the hope he brought to moments that felt uncertain.
Dr. Smith’s love for his profession was matched only by his devotion to his family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he brought the same kindness and steadiness to his personal relationships as he did in his practice. He found joy in spending time with his grandchildren, working in his garden, reading historical biographies, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life with his family by his side.
Dr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of over 35 years, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, his dedicated colleagues at Southeast Texas OB/GYN Associates, and the many patients whose lives he so deeply enriched.
A celebration of his life and legacy will be held ,with visitation hours preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dr. David B. Smith Women’s Health Scholarship Fund or the Beaumont Health Foundation, causes close to Dr. Smith’s heart.
As we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate a life lived with purpose, humility, and immeasurable impact. Dr. Smith’s light will continue to shine in every life he touched, every student he mentored, and every child he helped bring into the world.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a lasting blessing.
