Changes Ahead for “Saturday Night Live” as Cast Members Depart
Devon Walker has announced his departure from “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) in what marks the beginning of possible changes for the show as it gears up for its 51st season. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Walker reflected on his three years with the series, noting both the highs and lows. He acknowledged, “Sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction.”
Walker’s exit follows comments from the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, who hinted at significant shifts coming soon, especially after a landmark 50th season. Michaels confirmed in a recent interview that he anticipates adjustments to the cast, saying, “It’ll be announced in a week or so.”
SNL’s representation has not responded for further comments. Alongside Walker, writer Celeste Yim has also decided to leave after five seasons. Yim, who made history as the show’s first openly nonbinary writer, expressed mixed emotions in her farewell post, calling the experience a dream but also acknowledging the challenges she faced along the way.
Michaels has reassured fans that at least one familiar face, James Austin Johnson—famous for his portrayal of Donald Trump—is set to return. Since its creation in 1975, SNL has reinvented itself many times, featuring a wide array of talent from legends like John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd to today’s stars like Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson. The upcoming 51st season is scheduled to premiere on October 4.
