Edward Yarnold Morehouse Obituary, Death; – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of a man who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle in December 2024. The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Edward Yarnold Morehouse, a resident of Bakersfield. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene.
On Friday, December 27, 2024, at approximately 10:53 p.m., CHP officers responded to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Roberts Lane, located south of Brandon Way. Prior to the arrival of the officers, the vehicle involved had already left the scene, and there is currently no available description of it.
The preliminary investigation conducted by CHP revealed that Morehouse was walking westward across Roberts Lane, south of Brandon Way, outside of a designated crosswalk. At that time, the vehicle was traveling southbound on Roberts Lane, approaching Morehouse at an undetermined speed.
For reasons that remain under investigation, Morehouse entered the southbound lane of Roberts Lane, placing himself directly in the path of the vehicle. The driver struck him and subsequently fled the scene.
Morehouse was pronounced dead at the location of the incident. CHP has indicated that it is still unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in this tragic event.
