Elissa J Hernandez Obituary, Death; – A 19-year-old individual has been charged in connection with the death of a passenger following an incident involving a collision with a Metra Electric train last week. The tragic event occurred last Wednesday at approximately 12:30 a.m. on 87th Street near Baltimore Avenue. Moises Perez, a resident of Chicago, is alleged to have been operating the SUV that collided with the Metra Electric train, as reported by Metra.
The passenger who lost her life in the accident has been identified as Elissa J. Hernandez, also 19 years old and from Chicago. Additionally, two other passengers sustained critical injuries and are currently hospitalized, according to Metra.
The driver now faces multiple charges, including one count of reckless homicide, two counts of aggravated DUI resulting in death, four counts of aggravated DUI causing significant bodily harm, two counts of aggravated driving without a license, and charges for disregarding a railroad crossing.
Metra’s investigation revealed that the crossing gates were operational at the time of the incident, and the driver failed to heed the signals, resulting in the collision with the train. Perez is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 5.
