Police are appealing for witnesses after a tragic incident in Margate, Kent, where a four-year-old boy, identified as Zaahir Jan, died after being struck by a bus outside Queen Elizabeth Queen Margaret Hospital. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 7, 2025, shortly after 4 pm.
What Happened
Emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a white single-decker bus near the A&E department of the hospital. Zaahir, who had been visiting his grandmother inside the hospital, left on foot and was struck by the bus as it was traveling near the hospital entrance.
Zaahir was rushed back into the hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was tragically confirmed dead shortly afterward. His mother, Azaria Green, described her son as a “sweet, funny boy with a cheeky smile” in a heartfelt tribute. “Everyone is devastated, but that word doesn’t feel like enough to explain how we are all feeling,” she said. She added, “The smile that we can’t see again… I didn’t even get to tell you how much I love you.”
Investigation and Appeal
Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit has launched an inquiry into the incident. Officers are urging any witnesses, especially passengers who were on the bus, to come forward with relevant information. Kent Police are also seeking any CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision.
