A United Airlines flight going to Chicago had to land in St. Louis because a man on board said his wife had a bomb in her bags.
Flight 380 was flying from Dallas to Chicago when the pilot had to make a stop in St. Louis on Sunday morning.
Someone familiar with the situation said the man, who has been arrested, claimed there was a bomb in his wife’s luggage.
United Airlines said that police checked the plane before it continued to Chicago. Reports say that bomb-sniffing dogs were also used to search the plane.
There were 119 passengers and five crew members on the plane. Everyone had to get off the plane while police investigated.
The airline said that Flight 380 landed safely in St. Louis to deal with a possible security issue. After police searched the plane, it was cleared to continue to Chicago.
Police said that the FBI is now investigating the incident.
The flight was delayed for over five hours and arrived in Chicago in the afternoon.
In a similar event this year, a woman was arrested for making a fake bomb threat on a Frontier Airlines flight. Also, a man was arrested after telling a passenger his laptop was a bomb during an Allegiant flight. The plane had to make an emergency landing, but no bomb was found.
