Hubert Gauthreaux,Victoria Gauthreaux Obituary, Death; – Two individuals lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries following a high-speed collision involving an allegedly intoxicated driver on Saturday evening in Gretna. The coroner has identified the deceased as Hubert Gauthreaux and his wife, Victoria Gauthreaux.
They were the grandparents of Hubert Gauthreaux III, a student at Archbishop Shaw who was killed in the domestic terror attack on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of Hubert Sr. and Victoria Gauthreaux, who were taken from us in Saturday night’s devastating crash in downtown Gretna. This heartbreaking loss is made even more painful as they were the grandparents of 21-year-old Hubert Gauthreaux III, a victim of the Bourbon Street terror attack—one tragedy compounded by another.
In times like these, we must come together to support their loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable grief. Our entire Gretna community stands with the Gauthreaux family,” stated Mayor Belinda C. Constant of Gretna in a social media post.
According to authorities, the driver collided with several vehicles before crashing into a parked car occupied by Hubert and Victoria, who suffered fatal injuries. Stephan Juarez, 33, was operating a 2015 GMC truck eastbound in the 700 block of Fourth Street at excessive speed when he crossed the center line and collided with a westbound 2011 GMC Yukon, as reported by the Gretna Police Department.
The driver of the Yukon and two passengers incurred minor injuries. Police indicated that Juarez continued eastbound, striking a parked 2022 Honda Pilot before veering into oncoming traffic. He subsequently left the roadway and crashed head-on into a parked 2020 Volvo XC9.
One victim was seated in the rear of the Volvo, while another had exited the vehicle and was standing nearby. Both Hubert and Victoria were struck by Juarez’s vehicle and were transported by EMS to University Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Juarez sustained minor injuries and was taken to Ochsner Hospital Westbank before being booked.
