The federal government is taking action to protect communities in New Orleans, Louisiana, by focusing on illegal immigrants who have committed crimes and were released back into the area.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced “Operation Catahoula Crunch,” which aims to find and take into custody “criminal illegal aliens” who are free because of “sanctuary policies.” These policies prevent local law enforcement from working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
DHS officials said that some of the “worst criminal illegal aliens” have been let out onto the streets of Louisiana.
One example given was Juan Ramon Dubon-Argueta, an illegal immigrant from Honduras who had been deported before. His record includes arrests for assault, child endangerment, assault with a gun, domestic abuse, home invasion, and property damage.
Another case is Jose Fernando Arzu-Osorto, also from Honduras and illegally in the U.S. He has a criminal record that includes arrests for crimes against children and armed robbery. He was released because of sanctuary policies, but was later arrested again for armed robbery.
A DHS Assistant Secretary, Tricia McLaughlin, stated, “Sanctuary policies put American communities in danger by releasing illegal criminal aliens and forcing DHS law enforcement to risk their lives to remove criminal illegal aliens that should have never been put back on the streets.”
She added, “It is absurd that these criminals were released back onto New Orleans streets to commit more crimes and create more victims. Catahoula Crunch is targeting violent criminals who were released after being arrested for home invasion, armed robbery, grand theft auto, and rape. ”
This action comes as the government is also looking closely at immigration from countries considered a risk to national security. They are reviewing cases of people from these countries who were allowed into the country before, to make sure they do not pose a threat.
These efforts to enforce immigration laws are part of a larger promise to secure the border and remove dangerous illegal immigrants who have committed crimes.
The increase in immigration enforcement in New Orleans is a sign of the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens and enforcing the law. By focusing on illegal immigrants who have committed crimes, the government hopes to make communities safer and more secure for everyone.
This operation shows a dedication to the rule of law and a focus on putting the safety and well-being of American citizens first. It is a step toward responsible immigration policies that prioritize security and order.
