It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Danny Lee Long Sr., age 59, on September 16, 2025, at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa. Born and raised in Des Moines, Danny lived a life defined by hard work, family devotion, and a passion for the outdoors.

Danny was a proud union laborer with Local 177, dedicating his entire career to his trade—a calling that ran deep in his family. Following in the footsteps of his father, Ronald Eugene Long, and working alongside his brothers and son, Danny exemplified the values of dedication, teamwork, and perseverance. His commitment to his work and union family was unwavering, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional life, Danny found his greatest joy and peace in the natural world. Whether it was hunting in the early morning light, fishing along peaceful waters, or riding trails beneath open skies, Danny’s connection to the outdoors was a core part of his spirit. His enthusiasm extended to motorsports, particularly NASCAR and drag racing, where he was known for cheering on his favorite drivers with infectious excitement. A lifelong sports fan, Danny also held a special place in his heart for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Indiana Fever.

However, above all else, Danny’s true pride and happiness came from his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 41 years, Melody Long, and a loving father to Danny Jr. (Destiniy) Long and Angela (Trevor Casey) Long. He was a cherished son to Dixie Long and a caring brother to Steve and Scott Long. Most of all, Danny was a doting grandfather to his beloved granddaughters Isabella, Natalie, Mackenzie, Layla, Paislee May, and Oaklee, who brought endless joy to his life.

Danny’s kindness, steadfastness, and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and commitment to both family and community.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Evergreen Church of Christ, located at 2215 Evergreen Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m., with burial at Avon Cemetery, 3995 Hart Avenue, Des Moines. A reception will be held afterward at Evergreen Church of Christ, and all are warmly invited to attend to celebrate Danny’s remarkable life.

May Danny Lee Long Sr. rest in eternal peace, forever remembered by his family, friends, and community.
