It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Neal Vance, age 57, who peacefully passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at his home in Whitmer, West Virginia.

    What Happened

David was born on April 17, 1968, in Harman, WV, the son of the late Richard David Vance and Olivia Faye Montoney Vance. His death marks the loss of a beloved brother, uncle, friend, and dedicated member of the community.

    Who Was David Neal Vance?

David was a lifelong resident of West Virginia and a proud graduate of Harman High School, Class of 1986. He worked for over forty years as a Recreation Manager and Ski Area Mountain Manager at Canaan Valley Resort, where he became a cherished figure among locals and visitors alike. His dedication to the resort and its guests was unmatched, and he was known for his passion for the outdoors, hiking, and photography. David led many mountain hikes at Canaan Valley Resort, sharing his love for nature with others.

A Pentecostal by faith, David was also a member of the NRA and spent much of his life in the company of family and friends. He was an avid music lover, enjoying playing and collecting records, and his love for the outdoors and music were central parts of his personality.

He also leaves behind four nephews—Anthony Sponaugle, Joshua Vance, Zachary Ketterman, and Bryan Vance—and two great-nephews, Lance Adamson and Dustin Sponaugle, one niece, Andrea Adamson, and one great-niece, Emily Sponaugle. David was also deeply loved by his significant other, Kelsey Jeffries, and a host of cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
