It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Mark L. Massa Sr., who departed this world on Friday, September 5, 2025, at the age of 50. Mark passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital following a sudden medical emergency, leaving an unfillable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

    What Happened

Mark was born in Fall River, MA, to Louis S. Massa, Jr. and the late Arlene (St. Laurent) Massa. He was preceded in death by his brother, Scott A. Massa. Mark’s passing has left his beloved family and many others grieving the loss of a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

A proud and loving husband to his childhood sweetheart, Sally-Ann (Ferreira) Massa, Mark built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and a deep commitment to his family. His loss was sudden, and while the cause of his passing remains part of a deeply personal journey for his loved ones, what remains clear is the legacy he leaves behind.

    Reactions

Mark’s family, friends, and community members have been left devastated by his passing. As a devoted father to his sons, Mark L. Massa Jr. and Brayden J. Massa (partner Kaya Kelly), and a doting grandfather to Azula Hayes Massa and Amari Louis Massa, Mark’s love for his family was evident to all who knew him. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment with them.

Mark’s life was a testament to generosity, integrity, and strength. He was a man who could be counted on in any situation, whether fixing a broken appliance, offering valuable advice, or showing up at a moment’s notice. His booming laugh, love of football, and passion for travel with Sally will forever be remembered by those who had the honor of knowing him.

In addition to his family life, Mark had a notable career and a heart for service. As a Master Electrician, he was a skilled tradesman whose work contributed significantly to his community. His career in public service as a police/fire/rescue dispatcher for the City of Fall River and his time in the U.S. Army Reserves showcased his dedication to helping others. Furthermore, Mark gave back by coaching youth sports, volunteering at Camp Welch, and supporting his parish, St. John Neumann Church in E. Freetown. His service to the community was unwavering.

    What’s Next

In memory of Mark’s life and the love he had for his family, friends, and community, the family has requested that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Mark’s favorite charities. These include the Boys & Girls Club of Fall River, St. John Neumann Parish, Project Purple (Herren Foundation), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Clemency Uganda, and the American Red Cross. These donations reflect Mark’s legacy of service, kindness, and compassion, ensuring that his spirit continues to make a positive impact.
