The state of Indiana and the entire National Guard community are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Specialist Terry Frye, a respected resident of Lafayette, whose life was abruptly taken in a devastating military convoy collision. His untimely departure has left a significant void in the lives of his family, friends, fellow soldiers, and all who were touched by his service and spirit.

A Life of Service and Sacrifice

Specialist Terry Frye’s name was released by the Indiana National Guard on Monday, leading to an outpouring of grief from those who knew and admired him. Frye enlisted in the Indiana National Guard in March 2020, proudly answering the call to serve his country. His service earned him numerous accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon, which reflect his dedication, discipline, and commitment to protecting the nation he loved.

But beyond his military achievements, Terry was so much more. He was a devoted son, a loyal friend, a teammate, and a mentor. Those closest to him remember his quiet strength, reliability, and the genuine kindness he extended to everyone around him. His presence steadied and brightened the lives of those he encountered. The hole left by his absence is immeasurable, and his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.

    The Tragic Incident

The incident that led to Terry’s death occurred when Goderdzi Guzabidze, a driver reported to be unlawfully present in the country at the time, swerved his truck to avoid halted traffic. In his attempt to evade a collision, he caused the convoy’s Humvee, carrying Terry and three other Guardsmen, to lose control. The vehicle flipped over, tragically taking Terry’s life while the other Guardsmen sustained serious injuries.

Despite the investigation into the incident still ongoing, it is clear that Terry’s sacrifice was made while in the line of duty, serving his nation with dedication and courage. His loss has sent ripples of sorrow through the entire community, as people mourn the passing of a young man who exemplified bravery, loyalty, and honor.

    Remembering Terry

As we remember Terry, we honor the young man who served with immense pride, dedication, and compassion. His legacy is not just in the medals and awards he earned but in the relationships he built and the positive impact he had on those around him. Terry’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, as well as in the community that cherished him.

    To the Frye Family:

May you find comfort in knowing that Terry served with dignity and pride. May his memory bring you peace, and may the love and joy he shared with you help guide you through this difficult time. We are all deeply sorry for your loss.

    To His Fellow Guardsmen:

May Terry’s bravery, commitment, and the bond you shared endure in your service and your hearts. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

    To Terry:

We honor your service. We acknowledge your sacrifice. You are a true American hero, and your memory will live on in all of us. May you find eternal peace.
