Jack Gunderson Obituary, Cause of Death- It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jack Gunderson, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who passed away on November 8, 2024, at the age of 62. Jack’s unexpected death has left his family, friends, and the entire Mahtomedi, Minnesota, community in mourning.
Born on March 14, 1962, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to Walter and Marie Gunderson, Jack grew up in the Twin Cities area. He was known for his kind heart, quick wit, and strong sense of loyalty. Jack attended Mahtomedi High School, where he was an active participant in sports and developed lifelong friendships. It was during these formative years that he met the love of his life, Emily Larson, with whom he later married on July 18, 1987.
Jack and Emily settled in Mahtomedi, where they raised their two children, Kate and Luke. Over the years, Jack became a pillar of the Mahtomedi community. He worked for nearly 30 years as a [Profession], and his colleagues often praised his work ethic, honesty, and generosity. He was also a volunteer with several local organizations, including , and had a passion for giving back to the community that had given so much to him.
Outside of work, Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time at the family cabin up north, fishing, hiking, and sharing stories by the campfire. He was also an enthusiastic gardener and could often be found working in his yard, cultivating his beloved vegetable garden. Jack’s love for nature and the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family.
Jack’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband to Emily, a proud father to Kate and Luke, and a doting grandfather to his two grandsons, Ethan and Max. His family recalls with fondness his unwavering support, his infectious laughter, and his ability to light up a room with his presence. Jack was also a trusted friend to many, always there to offer a listening ear or a helping hand when needed.
Sadly, Jack’s life was cut short after a battle with. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. Though his death has left a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, his family takes comfort in knowing that Jack lived a full and meaningful life, one rich with love, laughter, and service to others.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Emily Gunderson; his children, Kate (Daniel) Meyers and Luke Gunderson; his grandchildren, Ethan and Max; his siblings, John Gunderson, Sally (Michael) Bell, and Paul Gunderson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie Gunderson.
A memorial service will be held on November 14, 2024, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, at 11:00 AM, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Friends, family, and the community are invited to attend to celebrate Jack’s life, share memories, and support one another during this time of loss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to the Mahtomedi Community Foundation, an organization that Jack was passionate about, or to a charity of your choice.
The Gunderson family would like to express their deep gratitude to the medical staff at for their compassionate care during Jack’s illness, as well as to the many friends and neighbors who have provided support and comfort in the days since his passing.
