Jose Garcia-Garcia Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who lost his life when the vehicle he was operating collided with a bridge support early on Friday morning.
Jose Garcia-Garcia, a 20-year-old resident of Meriden, was declared deceased at the hospital despite efforts to save his life at the scene of the accident, as stated by Meriden Police Sgt. Adam Kery on Tuesday.
Additionally, two other passengers in the vehicle were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police reports at the time.
The incident occurred on South Colony Road shortly before 1:45 a.m. on Friday. Initial investigations indicate that the 2007 Honda Accord struck the abutment of the Amtrak train bridge, police reported.
The roadway was closed while law enforcement gathered and documented evidence, and train operations were suspended until an inspection confirmed the safety of the bridge and tracks.
South Colony Road was reopened around 5:45 a.m. The Meriden Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is actively pursuing the investigation into the incident, as noted by Sgt. John Slezak on Tuesday.
