Joseph Amos Obituary, Death; – A 60-year-old man from Lafayette lost his life in a crash that occurred in Calcasieu Parish.
On February 12, 2025, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Louisiana State Police (LSP) Troop D initiated an investigation into a fatal single-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 East, close to Hungerford Road. The incident resulted in the death of Joseph Amos, aged 60, from Lafayette, as confirmed by an LSP representative.
Initial findings indicate that Amos was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling eastbound in the right lane of I-10, while an 18-wheeler was also moving east in the center lane. For reasons that are still being examined, the 18-wheeler merged into the right lane, prompting the Chevrolet to veer onto the right shoulder and momentarily decelerate. Subsequently, the Chevrolet accelerated on the shoulder in an attempt to overtake the 18-wheeler. During this maneuver, Amos lost control of the vehicle, causing it to rotate and veer off the roadway, ultimately colliding with a tree.
At the time of the accident, Amos was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries, being pronounced dead at the scene, according to law enforcement officials. A routine toxicology sample was taken from Amos and is currently undergoing analysis. Through investigative efforts, Troopers have identified the 18-wheeler and its driver, with possible charges forthcoming. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
