Tributes have been pouring in for Kacper Dudek, described as a “gentle soul,” who tragically lost his life when a tree fell on his car during Storm Eowyn.
The 20-year-old, originally from Poland but raised in Lifford, Donegal, was killed early Friday morning around 5:30 am on the N14 near Lifford while driving home from work. Kacper and a colleague were traveling in a two-car convoy when the devastating accident occurred.
It is believed Kacper was attempting a U-turn after encountering a road accident when a tree, uprooted by the storm, struck his car. At the time of the incident, Kacper was speaking to his father on the phone, just hours before a red weather alert came into effect in Donegal at 7 am.
The Holy Cross College in Strabane, where Kacper was a former student, shared an emotional tribute, stating: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our past student, Kacper Dudek, who has sadly passed away. May Kacper’s gentle soul rest in peace.”
Sion Swifts Football Club, where Kacper played for a season, also expressed their condolences for the loss of the young man.
Mr Dudek’s body was removed from the scene to the mortuary in Letterkenny University Hospital for a post-mortem examination and the N14 was closed to allow for a full examination of the scene.
