Kara Jade Weribone Obituary, Death; – A young mother of three, tragically shot in a suburban street in Queensland, has been named as authorities initiate a murder investigation into her death.
Kara Jade Weribone, aged 27, was shot at a residence on Christmas Street in North Toowoomba around 1:50 PM on Wednesday. She was discovered critically injured on a footpath and subsequently transported to Toowoomba Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
At the scene, paramedics treated two men—one in his 50s with a head injury and another experiencing emotional distress. Tributes have begun to emerge for the young mother, with family members expressing their shock at the tragic news. One relative shared, “I’m trying so hard to keep it together but this is hurting me that you’re really gone baby sis. I never wanted to say goodbye to you yet. Can’t believe this.” Another loved one lamented, “My sister, my heart is shattered.”
Acting Detective Inspector Brian Collins reported that three associates of the victim have been taken into custody, although the investigation remains in its early stages.
Authorities have indicated that the motive behind the shooting is still unclear, noting that there is “nothing to indicate” it was a domestic violence incident, nor do they believe it is related to drugs. “It’s devastating to lose a life in such a manner, and we are committed to determining exactly what transpired,” Collins stated.
He characterized the shooting as “extremely alarming” but reassured the public that there is currently no threat to safety. “This occurred in the early afternoon, just around school pick-up time,” he noted. “We had all available crews responding to the incident.”
As the investigation progresses, police are appealing to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the West Street and Christmas Street area between 1:30 and 2:00 PM to come forward.
