Following a stint with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Brian Kelly’s tenure as head coach of Louisiana State University (LSU) has come to an end. After signing a 10-year contract with LSU in December 2021, Kelly was expected to lead the football program to another national championship. However, after three seasons, the university announced that it was parting ways with Kelly.

While Kelly achieved double-digit wins in his first two seasons at LSU, reports have emerged suggesting issues with his approach and relationships with players and staff. Some have said that Kelly struggled to remember players’ names, which was used against them.

LSU athletic director Scott Woodward, who brought Kelly to the program, was also let go.

Some staff members also said that Kelly changed the culture at LSU. They felt that Kelly didn’t fully understand the differences between coaching in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) compared to Notre Dame.

Representatives for Kelly have not yet commented on the situation.

The atmosphere at LSU’s Tiger Stadium during the team’s recent game against Texas A&M was noticeably different, with many seats empty by the end of the game. Following the game, Kelly met with Woodward and the players before the announcement of his departure.

The university is now searching for a new head coach to lead the football program.
