A disturbing case has come to light in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where two parents are facing serious charges after allegedly locking their six children inside a storage unit. The children, ranging in age from two months to nine years, were reportedly found in deplorable conditions, prompting intervention from local authorities.

Charles Dupriest, 33, and Azyia Zielinski, 26, are now facing multiple counts of child neglect. The situation unfolded when concerned citizens heard cries coming from a storage unit and alerted the Milwaukee Police Department. Upon arrival, officers discovered the children locked inside, with no access to electricity or running water. The space reportedly contained only a mattress, a couch, and a bucket filled with urine.

According to reports, the children told police that they had been instructed to remain quiet while inside the unit. One of the children, a five-year-old girl, recounted the experience of trying to open the door but being unable to do so. She described using a bucket as a toilet, sometimes with a bag inside, and expressed sadness that the family dog was allowed to sleep in the car while they were confined to the storage unit. The girl also stated her father carried a firearm.

Law enforcement officials located Dupriest and Zielinski nearby, asleep in their SUV with the family dog. The parents reportedly told police that they had been asked to leave a local homeless shelter about a month prior to the incident. They admitted that they could have left the children with friends or family, but chose not to. They also admitted to locking the children in the unit at least three times a week. The family was reportedly relying on food stamps and social security payments.

The children also reported that their father had a gun and would often physically discipline them.

This incident raises serious questions about parental responsibility and the role of government in ensuring the safety and well-being of children. While social safety nets like food stamps and social security are intended to provide assistance to families in need, they are clearly not always enough to prevent tragic situations like this from occurring. This case underscores the importance of strong families and communities, where parents are supported in their roles and children are protected from harm. It also highlights the need for a society that values personal responsibility and accountability. Parents have a fundamental duty to provide for the basic needs of their children and to ensure their safety and welfare. When they fail to do so, there must be consequences.

Dupriest and Zielinski have been arraigned and are currently being held in the Milwaukee County Jail. The children have been taken into the care of child protective services. The community now faces the challenge of providing support and healing to these young victims, while also addressing the underlying issues that contributed to this heartbreaking situation.
