It was a quiet Sunday morning in Aiken County until the sound of a violent collision echoed through the trees along Good Springs Road. Local authorities are now picking up the pieces of a single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 46-year-old Aiken man, Kevin Parker, and left another person in the hospital. The tragedy unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on December 21, turning a normal weekend drive into a scene of absolute heartbreak.

According to investigators from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Parker was riding as a passenger in a 2011 Cadillac SUV. The vehicle was heading southbound when things went south in an instant. As the SUV approached the intersection with Confederate Road, it suddenly veered off the right side of the pavement. The heavy vehicle barreled into the woods, striking two large trees with enough force to cause catastrophic damage.

Hit and run leaves one person dead

The impact was so severe that Parker was ejected from the SUV. When emergency responders arrived at the rural site, they found him with fatal injuries; he was pronounced dead right there at the scene. It’s the kind of news no family ever wants to receive, especially during the early hours of the morning when the rest of the world is still asleep.

The driver of the Cadillac didn’t walk away unscathed, either. While their name hasn’t been released to the public just yet, officials confirmed they suffered serious injuries. Medics rushed the driver to a nearby hospital for urgent care. As of now, the exact condition of the driver remains under wraps, but the mechanical wreckage left behind tells a story of a very high-impact encounter.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables’ office was on the move quickly, confirming Parker’s identity once his family was notified. To get a clearer picture of exactly what happened in those final moments, an autopsy has been scheduled in Newberry. It’s a standard move in cases like this, but it adds another layer of waiting for a community looking for answers.

Right now, state troopers are digging into the “why” behind the crash. They’re looking at everything from the condition of the road to the speed of the SUV. One big question remains: were the occupants wearing seatbelts? Authorities haven’t confirmed that detail yet, but they did mention how difficult these single-vehicle crashes can be to untangle, particularly when they happen in the pitch-black hours of the early morning.

The wreck caused a stir in the local area for several hours as crews worked to clear the debris and document the scene. While traffic has since returned to normal on Good Springs Road, the weight of the loss lingers. No charges or citations have been handed out while the investigation continues, leaving a grieving family and a quiet community waiting for the final report.
