Mika Immonen Death and Obituary – The billiards world is mourning the loss of Finnish professional pool player Mika “The Iceman” Immonen, who passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 52. Known for his calm demeanor, precision, and dominance on the international stage, Immonen leaves behind an enduring legacy as one of the greatest cue sports players of his generation. His death follows a courageous two-year battle with stage 4 colon and rectal cancer, diagnosed in December 2023.

Born in Helsinki, Finland, Immonen quickly rose through the ranks of the professional pool circuit, establishing himself as a formidable presence in the sport. His talent and determination earned him worldwide recognition, with fans and competitors alike admiring his unwavering focus and icy composure under pressure. These qualities led to his fitting nickname, “The Iceman.”

Over a career that spanned decades, Immonen’s contributions to billiards extended far beyond his titles. He inspired countless aspiring players across Europe, Asia, and North America, proving that dedication and skill could elevate the game to new heights.

Immonen’s list of accomplishments is among the most impressive in modern pool history. He was a two-time world champion, capturing the WPA World Nine-ball Championship in 2001 and the WPA World Ten-ball Championship in 2009. These victories cemented his place among the sport’s elite and brought international recognition to Finnish cue sports.

In 2014, Immonen’s outstanding career was honored with induction into the Billiards Congress of America (BCA) Hall of Fame, one of the sport’s most prestigious accolades.

Immonen was also a cornerstone of Team Europe in the Mosconi Cup, appearing in the event 15 times. During his tenure, he helped Europe secure four victories, further demonstrating his consistency and reliability in high-stakes competitions.

In December 2023, Immonen revealed he had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon and rectal cancer. Despite the devastating news, he displayed resilience and optimism, continuing to compete in select tournaments even while undergoing treatment. His unwavering positivity and determination during his illness were a reflection of the same grit that defined his career on the pool table.

Friends, fans, and fellow professionals rallied around him throughout his battle, highlighting the deep respect and admiration he commanded across the billiards community.

Following his death, tributes poured in from across the sporting world. Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan expressed heartfelt condolences, praising Immonen’s skill, sportsmanship, and influence on the game.
