Miranda Lambert, the well-known country singer, is diving headfirst into a very American pastime: mounted shooting. In a recent talk with Joe Rogan, Lambert shared her excitement for the sport, which involves riding a horse while shooting targets with revolvers.
Lambert explained that a friend introduced her to mounted shooting, and her husband encouraged her to give it a try. Now, she’s hooked. She enjoys the challenge and the chance to take her mind off the everyday pressures of the music business.
Mounted shooting, according to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, is a timed event where competitors use two .45 caliber single action revolvers loaded with blank ammunition. They’re judged on speed and accuracy, with points taken off for mistakes.
Lambert is married to Brendan McLoughlin, a retired New York City police officer. She joked that she brought him from the big city down to Tennessee and Texas, where he’s adapting to the Southern way of life.
Lambert also mentioned that her father was a police officer, drawing parallels between her dad and her husband. She noted that both men have experienced some hearing loss due to being around guns. The couple splits their time between Nashville and Texas, embracing both country music and conservative values.
