AVERY COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The search for a missing mother and her child has come to a tragic end after the two were discovered deceased inside a vehicle on Tuesday.
According to the Avery County Sheriff’s office, on Monday, Feb. 17, deputies were notified of two missing people, a mother and her child.
The two were entered into a national database, the sheriff’s office said.
On Tuesday morning, Feb. 18, the missing woman’s vehicle was found overturned in a creek off US Hwy 19 E near the Cranberry community. Both the woman and child were found deceased inside the vehicle following a crash, authorities said.
The identities of the mother and child have not yet been released.
The North Carolina State Highway is conducting an investigation into the crash.
“The thoughts and prayers of the Avery County Sheriff’s Office are with the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time,” the sheriff’s office said.
