A devastating two-vehicle collision on US-62 near Prague on Saturday evening claimed the lives of two drivers, prompting an investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).
The fatal accident occurred when 48-year-old Norman Pyatt, traveling eastbound on US-62, reportedly lost control of his vehicle. His car veered off the roadway before crossing the center line into oncoming traffic. Lacey Collins, 38, who was heading westbound, was unable to avoid the collision. Pyatt’s vehicle struck hers, resulting in a violent crash.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene but pronounced Pyatt dead on arrival. Collins, who sustained severe injuries, was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine what led Pyatt’s vehicle to leave the roadway. Factors such as excessive speed, road conditions, or mechanical issues are being considered. Investigators are also assessing whether alcohol, drugs, or other impairments may have contributed to the incident.
This tragic collision highlights the unpredictable dangers of driving and the critical importance of safe driving practices. Accidents involving vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic often result in catastrophic outcomes, underscoring the need for attentiveness and adherence to traffic rules. OHP’s findings will aim to shed light on the circumstances and provide lessons for preventing similar tragedies.
As the Prague community mourns the loss of Norman Pyatt and Lacey Collins, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the responsibility all drivers share in ensuring road safety. The OHP continues to encourage motorists to remain vigilant, follow traffic laws, and prioritize safety to prevent further tragedies on Oklahoma’s roadways.
