ALHAMBRA, Calif. — The city of Alhambra is mourning the tragic death of Officer Alec Sanders, a 28-year-old police officer who was killed early Thursday morning during a high-speed pursuit that also claimed the life of a civilian.
The devastating crash occurred around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive, authorities confirmed.

    What Happened

According to officials, the deadly pursuit ended when a gray SUV collided violently with an Alhambra Police Department patrol vehicle. Officer Alec Sanders was inside the patrol car when the impact occurred, causing catastrophic damage to the front of the vehicle and deploying the airbags.

Eyewitnesses reported that the SUV struck the police car with such force that a civilian was ejected from the SUV and found in an alley behind a nearby restaurant. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another occupant of the SUV was taken into custody and later hospitalized.

Officer Sanders was rushed to Los Angeles General Medical Center with a police escort, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

    Who Was Officer Alec Sanders?

Alec Sanders, just 28, had already built a meaningful career in law enforcement. He had served with the Alhambra Police Department for the past eight months and previously worked with the Long Beach Police Department for one year.

He was known by colleagues as a dedicated officer with a strong sense of duty, a warm personality, and a deep commitment to public service. Outside the badge, Alec was a proud Dallas Cowboys fan, a devoted brother to his two younger sisters, and a passionate fitness enthusiast who inspired many around him.

Friends and fellow officers describe him as driven, compassionate, and always willing to go the extra mile—both in uniform and in his personal life.

    Career, Service, and Lasting Legacy

Though his career was still young, Officer Alec Sanders had already made a profound impact in the departments he served. His colleagues praise his work ethic, his integrity, and his eagerness to protect and uplift his community.

His loss is not only a blow to the Alhambra Police Department but to the larger law enforcement community across Southern California. His dedication and vibrant spirit will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

    Public and Social Media Reactions

The news of Officer Sanders’ death has spread quickly throughout Alhambra and neighboring cities, prompting an outpouring of grief and heartfelt tributes. Community members, school officials, local organizations, and residents have shared condolences online, expressing deep sadness and appreciation for his service.

Law enforcement agencies across the state have also issued statements honoring his bravery and commitment, while social media posts with hashtags like #OfficerAlecSanders, #AlhambraStrong, and #HeroesInBlue highlight the widespread mourning and support for his family.

Vigils and memorial gatherings are already being organized to remember his life and sacrifice.

Official Statements and What Happens Next

Investigators from the Alhambra Police Department, the Gabriel Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol continue to examine the crash site to determine the circumstances leading to the high-speed pursuit and subsequent collision.

Valley Boulevard remained closed for several blocks Thursday morning as officials assessed the damage and collected evidence. The full details of the chase, including what triggered it, are still under review.

Funeral arrangements for Officer Alec Sanders have yet to be announced. The Alhambra Police Department is expected to release additional information in the coming days, including plans for memorial services and ways for the public to offer support.
