Pat Moody, a beloved community leader from Windham, Maine, passed away after a brave battle with cancer, leaving behind an incredible legacy of dedication to youth sports, education, and community development.
Throughout his life, Pat’s unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children and families in Windham and surrounding areas was evident in everything he did.
His contributions spanned many years and included leadership roles, tireless volunteerism, and countless efforts to ensure that local kids had access to safe, engaging activities that helped them grow both on and off the court.
As president of the Windham Youth Basketball Association (WYBA) for over a decade, Pat transformed the organization into the largest youth basketball program in Maine, a testament to his passion and leadership.
Under his guidance, WYBA flourished, providing opportunities for children of all ages to play basketball, have fun, and develop important life skills. Pat’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and fun for kids was at the heart of everything he did.
His work went beyond the basketball court—he was deeply involved in making sure young people had access to positive outlets and experiences, including serving on committees and presiding over organizations that aimed to benefit the community.
One of Pat’s greatest achievements was his long-running effort to bring new outdoor basketball courts to Windham, which were recently dedicated in his honor.
Before that, he built the Moody Basketball Barn at his home, offering a safe, welcoming space for kids to play, as Windham lacked a community center where young people could gather.
Pat’s generosity of spirit and sense of community was further demonstrated by his tireless efforts to make the dream of a community center a reality.
