WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – President Donald Trump said Sunday he’s open to meeting with New York City’s newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani. This comes after a heated election where Trump criticized Mamdani’s progressive policies.
During the campaign, President Trump voiced concerns about the direction New York might take under Mamdani, emphasizing the importance of sound fiscal management and public safety. He expressed a desire to ensure the city continues to be a place where businesses can thrive and families can feel secure.
Mamdani, who is set to take office in January, has stated his willingness to work with the federal government to benefit New Yorkers. This sentiment was echoed by President Trump, who told reporters he’s willing to “work something out” with the incoming mayor.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the President was referring to Mamdani, and that while no date has been set, the administration hopes for a productive relationship with the new city leader.
“We want to see everything work out well for New York,” President Trump said, highlighting his administration’s commitment to supporting cities across the nation.
