Today, we remember and honor the life of Laura Rockefeller, who would have celebrated her 66th birthday. Born on October 13, 1959, Laura was a passionate soul with a love for the arts, animals, and people. Her life, tragically cut short on September 11, 2001, at the age of 41, continues to be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm for life.

    A Life in the Arts

Laura’s love for musical theatre and acting began at an early age. Growing up in Manhattan, her mother ran a children’s theater, and her father was a television director — both of which influenced Laura’s deep passion for the arts. She attended Valhalla High School and Syracuse University, where she participated in numerous drama performances and took on leading roles in musicals. She was known for her beautiful singing voice and frequently attended plays in New York City, where her love for the theater flourished.

A Love for Animals and Helping Others

In addition to her artistic pursuits, Laura had a great love for animals. She had a dog named James Taylor and two cats, Uff and Parker. Laura was dedicated to animals and regularly participated in dog runs at Riverside Park. She was also known for finding homes for stray cats, always taking the time to help animals in need.

    A Warm and Upbeat Personality

Laura’s friends and family described her as sweet, genuine, warm, and sincere. Her good friend Betsy Kates recalled her as “positive energy embodied, a very cheerful and spirited person.” Laura’s upbeat personality made her a beloved figure in the lives of those around her. She was always the one to light up a room and bring joy to those she interacted with.

    Career and Pursuits

Professionally, Laura worked as a part-time event liaison officer and freelance delegate coordinator for Risk Waters Group. Originally starting as an office manager, Laura made the decision to switch to part-time to pursue her dreams of acting. Her colleagues at Risk Waters admired her for her cheerful and happy demeanor, which helped to uplift everyone around her.

    Tragic Loss

On the morning of September 11, 2001, Laura was attending the Risk Waters Technology Conference at Windows on the World, located on the 106th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. At 8:46 a.m., Flight 11 struck the North Tower, leaving both floors above the impact zone, including the restaurant, impassable. Tragically, no one working at or attending Windows on the World survived the attack, including Laura.

    A Legacy That Lives On

Though her life was unfairly taken from her, Laura’s legacy endures. Her love, passion, accomplishments, and memories continue to be cherished by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Today, as we remember Laura Rockefeller on her heavenly birthday, we honor the beautiful life she led and the mark she left on those around her.

    Closing Line

Laura, we will never forget you. Your light, love, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing you. Happy heavenly birthday.
