Robert Matthew Montgomery Obituary – Indiana State Police have apprehended a man from Jennings County in connection with the murder of his father. On February 9, shortly after 10 p.m., troopers from the ISP, along with deputies from the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the North Vernon Police Department, responded to reports of gunfire in the 4000 block of East Private Road 450 South.
Upon their arrival at the scene in southern Jennings County, law enforcement discovered a deceased individual outside the residence, who has been identified as 53-year-old Robert “Matthew” Montgomery. Officers successfully persuaded the alleged perpetrator, 30-year-old Conner M. Montgomery, to exit the house, where he was subsequently taken into custody.
According to the ISP, the younger Montgomery was engaged in a confrontation with a woman inside the residence, during which he allegedly pointed a firearm at her and discharged it. Investigators noted that two children were present in the home at the time of the incident.
As the woman attempted to leave, Montgomery reportedly shot and rendered her vehicle inoperable. Prior to the police being summoned, Robert Montgomery was called to the residence. Upon his arrival, he was shot by his son while standing outside the home.
Conner Montgomery has been charged with murder, criminal confinement with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, domestic battery in the presence of minors, neglect of a dependent, and pointing a firearm. The date for his initial court appearance in Jennings County Circuit Court is yet to be determined.
