Virginia Candidate Targeted by Rude Remarks; Supporter Faces Backlash

A man who shouted insults at Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, a Republican, during a college football game is now saying he’s being bothered because of it.

The incident happened at a James Madison University game. The man yelled, “Go back to Haiti!” at Sears, who is actually an immigrant from Jamaica. He also called her a “traitor.”

The Fairfax County Police looked into the man’s claims of harassment but decided there wasn’t enough evidence to start a criminal investigation.

After the football game incident, Sears responded with a touch of humor, saying she thought Democrats were supposed to love everyone.

The man, reportedly named Scott Pogorelc, was fired from his job at a company that works with the government. The company said it expects its employees to act with integrity.

It turns out Pogorelc has given money to the Democratic Party in the past, including to Abigail Spanberger, who is running against Sears.

This isn’t the first time Sears has dealt with upsetting remarks. Earlier this year, someone held up a sign with a hateful message about her during a protest. Many leaders, including Governor Glenn Youngkin, have spoken out against these kinds of actions, saying they are wrong and that Sears deserves better. Attorney General Jason Miyares also criticized the sign.
