Sergeant Grant Candies Obituary, Death; – The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of the sergeant who lost his life in a multi-parish accident on Sunday morning.
Sergeant Grant Candies, aged 37, was engaged in a pursuit when he deployed a spike strip on Interstate 10 near the Oak Harbor exit and was struck by the suspect’s vehicle. The chase originated on Brownswitch Road, where a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled at a high speed, ignoring the officer’s signals to halt.
The pursuit concluded when the suspect’s vehicle collided with a New Orleans Police Unit in Orleans Parish, close to the intersection of I-10 and Crowder. Sgt. Candies began his tenure with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office in March 2016 and achieved the rank of sergeant in 2023.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
