What Happened
On the day of his disappearance, Byron Speller drove his mother’s burgundy Chevrolet Tahoe to the old Kroger on Wrightsboro Road in Augusta, Georgia. After locking his keys inside the car, he called his younger brother Corey Morgan for help. Corey arrived to assist, and a locksmith was able to unlock the vehicle. That was the last time Corey saw his brother.
Afterwards, Byron was supposed to pick up his mother for work the following day, but he failed to show up, prompting concern from his family. “It’s really, really hard not having my brother here,” said Courtney Morgan, Byron’s older sister. According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the vehicle was discovered outside a gas station on Lumpkin Road, approximately 20 minutes from the original location. The gas station owner contacted law enforcement after the car had been sitting there for a full day.
