Shilo Sanders Shines in NFL Preseason Debut
TAMPA, Fla. — Shilo Sanders made an impressive start in his first NFL preseason game, showcasing his skills and determination on the field. He quickly found his way to the line of scrimmage, blitzing past the offensive line and tackling quarterback Brandon Allen just as he released the ball.
This performance came on the heels of his brother Shedeur’s standout debut with the Cleveland Browns, where he played as starting quarterback. Shilo’s efforts contributed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 29-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
“It felt good,” Sanders remarked following the game. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be on the field. I know I can improve on my angles and tracking in the next game, as you don’t often get those chances in practice.”
Undrafted and signed by the Buccaneers from Colorado, Shilo Sanders is competing for a spot on a deep roster. He played safety during the second half, making a solid impression with one tackle and the first quarterback hit of the game on his initial series.
After the game, Shilo shared a heartfelt moment with his father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, showing him his game-worn No. 28 jersey as a birthday gift. Although Deion playfully declined the jersey, Shilo plans to give it to his mom instead, humorously noting he aims to make an even bigger impact on the field for his family.
Meanwhile, his brother Shedeur also impressed in his game, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Browns to a 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. Despite their early success, both brothers face a challenging path ahead as they compete against seasoned players for their respective roster spots.
Bucs coach Todd Bowles praised Shilo’s performance, noting, “He played tough and did a great job. He had crucial tackles and a good pressure on the quarterback.”
As training camp continues, both Sanders brothers are drawing attention for their abilities, but the competition remains fierce. Each player is focused on proving their worth and securing their place in the NFL.
