A quiet Laurens County community was left reeling after 33-year-old Spencer Edge of Laurens was killed Tuesday evening when his car veered off Lincoln Road near Ora Road and struck a tree.

According to the Laurens County Coroner’s Office, Edge was the sole occupant of the vehicle. First responders arrived soon after the collision, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m., but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is working alongside the coroner’s office to investigate what led to the crash. As of now, officials have not released whether external factors—like poor visibility, weather conditions, or vehicle malfunction—or driver-related causes played any role.

For many neighbors and friends, the loss hits deeply. Edge was known around Laurens County, and his sudden death serves as a stark reminder of how fragile life can be on rural roads. Those who knew him speak of his presence, warmth, and the quiet ways he touched lives.

As the investigation continues, local residents say the crash has renewed conversations about safety out on rural stretches—especially at dusk or night where light is limited and roads can be unforgiving. The lack of street lighting and winding roads in some county areas make travel after dark particularly risky.

The coroner’s office offered condolences to Edge’s family and indicated that more information will be released once the review is complete. Until then, community members are rallying around loved ones, sharing support, memories, and grief.

In this unsettled hour, the focus remains on honoring Spencer Edge—on remembering him not just for the tragic way his life ended, but for the life he led and the people he leaves behind.
