President Trump Considers Pardoning Former Honduran Leader
West Palm Beach, Florida – Former President Donald Trump has announced he is considering pardoning Juan Orlando Hernandez, the former president of Honduras. Hernandez was convicted in a U.S. court on drug trafficking and weapons charges and sentenced to a lengthy prison term.
President Trump explained his reasoning on social media, stating that many people he respects believe Hernandez was treated unfairly. He highlighted the importance of strong leadership in Central America, suggesting a leader who is not aligned with American values could have negative consequences for the region.
The former president also expressed support for Tito Asfura in the upcoming Honduran presidential election. He emphasized that the United States should be careful about how it spends its resources, particularly if Honduras elects a leader who may not be a reliable partner.
The current Honduran president, Xiomara Castro, has taken a leftist approach but has still worked with the U.S. on some issues, such as accepting deported citizens.
