SURREY, BC — The family of Bill (William) Haworth, a 76-year-old former teacher and rugby coach with the Surrey School District, is urgently seeking public assistance in locating him after he went missing on August 27. Bill was last seen crossing the 160th Street overpass heading southbound, just after 12:36 p.m.
What We Know So Far
Bill, who lives with dementia, was last confirmed seen in the area of Highway 1 and 160th Street. A potential sighting was reported on August 28 or 29 at 4:30 a.m. near the Tim Hortons at 16811 96 Avenue, possibly coming from the Tynehead Perimeter Trail. It’s unclear whether he entered or exited the park from another area.
Bill is described as a white male, 5’10”, 200 lbs, bald, wearing a white baseball cap, blue shirt, black shorts, and white sneakers. He does not have a cell phone, wallet, or keys and may be confused, tired, or disoriented. The family is concerned that Bill may be seeking food or water but has no means to purchase them.
Search Efforts and Areas of Focus
Search efforts have intensified, with volunteers and family members actively looking for Bill. Special attention is being focused on the Tynehead, Fraser Heights, and Guildford areas, but Bill may have traveled further into the Lower Mainland.
Residents are asked to check yards, sheds, garages, and any other places where someone could take shelter. If you have vacant properties or nearby camps, please inspect them for any signs of Bill. The family also encourages reviewing dash cam and security footage from August 27 onward.
How You Can Help
If you spot Bill, please stay with him and immediately contact the Surrey Police Service at (604) 599-0502, quoting File #25 49157 (SU).
Family and volunteers are organizing searches and are encouraging the public to help by keeping an eye out. Updates on the search are available via the Facebook group “Search for Bill Haworth.”
“We are desperate to bring Bill home. Please keep watch, check your properties, and help spread the word. Every sighting could be the one that brings him back to us,” said his family.
This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
