Yaneliz Munguia Death;- The family of a 10-year-old girl who tragically lost her life due to a stray bullet during a New Year’s celebration in northwest Miami-Dade is expressing their profound sorrow as law enforcement continues to investigate the incident and identify the shooter.
Yaneliz Munguia was enjoying the festivities with her relatives outside their residence on Northwest 27th Avenue in Allapattah when she unexpectedly collapsed at approximately 12:04 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Miami-Dade Police officials.
Upon discovering her unresponsive state, her parents examined her for injuries and found a gunshot wound to the back of her head. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Munguia had recently celebrated her 10th birthday on December 26. “She was the most beautiful,” her father conveyed to NBC6 in Spanish on Thursday. “I will never have another like her.”
Holding a drawing that Munguia had created for him on Father’s Day, he and her mother reminisced about her intelligence. “It is incredibly painful to lose a family member because we will never see them again,” her grandfather, Ramon Valdizon, shared with reporters in Spanish on Wednesday night.
Struggling to hold back tears, Valdizon recalled Munguia as a joyful child. “Every time I visited, she would light up with happiness upon seeing me, and today was no different,” he reflected.
Valdizon also mentioned Munguia’s 6-year-old brother, who continually inquires about his older sister. He noted that his daughter has been compelled to fabricate stories about her whereabouts to comfort her son.
Authorities suspect that Munguia was hit by a stray bullet fired into the air by an unidentified individual from an unknown location. Detectives are actively pursuing leads to find those responsible.
For decades, South Florida officials have cautioned New Year’s celebrants against discharging firearms, particularly following the heartbreaking incident involving 5-year-old Rickia Isaac, who was killed by a stray bullet on New Year’s Eve in Miami in 1997.
“We repeatedly emphasize every New Year’s that what goes up must come down, and this incident exemplifies the dangers associated with indiscriminately firing a weapon into the air,” stated Detective Andre Martin. “We have a 10-year-old girl who has lost her life as a result.”
