Late Saturday evening in Hampton, charges were announced in a case that began as a seemingly routine welfare check but quickly escalated into a homicide investigation. According to the Hampton Police Division, at around 7:30 p.m. on November 15, officers responded to a call from a family member requesting a welfare check at a home in the 500 block of Newport News Avenue.

When crews arrived, they made contact with 18-year-old Kyron Jackson, who answered the door and said his relative was sleeping. Police say they insisted on verifying the welfare of the person in question, and Kyron allowed them into the residence. Once inside, officers went to a bedroom and discovered 73-year-old Arthur Jackson—believed to be Kyron’s older relative—dead, in a scene that investigators say included both gunshot and stab wounds.

During that escalation, Kyron is accused of grabbing both a firearm and a knife, then stabbing and shooting Arthur Jackson. On Sunday, Hampton Police formally charged Kyron Jackson with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The older man, Arthur, lived at the residence and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The sudden shift from a welfare check into a homicide scene has shaken the neighborhood. Officers say the home is located in a block between LaSalle Avenue and Kecoughtan Road, not far from Eason Park.

Police emphasize the investigation remains ongoing. They did not immediately release further details regarding motive or prior history between the two individuals beyond the fact that the argument was domestic-related. All involved have been cooperating; arrest occurred swiftly after the initial scene.

At this point the city is urging anyone with information to reach out to the Hampton Police Division’s homicide unit. Neighbors and community members are left grappling with the tragedy of a home visit gone wrong, and the loss of a long-time resident in such shocking circumstances.

While the case now sits in the hands of prosecutors, the ripple effect of the incident is already being felt in the community as investigators work to piece together the full sequence of events that transformed what began as a welfare concern into a criminal homicide investigation.
