It is with profound sorrow and heartbreak that we remember the life of Roa Mashi, a tender 2-and-a-half-year-old girl from Al-Mawasi, Gaza, who tragically passed away in August 2025 due to severe malnutrition and hunger.

    A Symbol of Suffering

Roa’s death occurred inside her family’s tent, a place meant to offer shelter and safety, but which instead bore witness to the devastating consequences of a deepening humanitarian crisis. Her passing is not just a personal tragedy, but a symbol of the suffering endured by thousands of children across Gaza, where food insecurity and lack of medical access have reached catastrophic levels.

    Gaza’s Crisis

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Gaza is experiencing its highest levels of acute malnutrition ever recorded, with over 12,000 children under five identified as acutely malnourished in July alone. Roa was one of the most vulnerable—her tiny body overwhelmed by hunger, her life cut short before it had truly begun.

    Roa’s Memory

Roa was a beloved daughter, cherished by her family and adored by those around her. Her smile brought light to the darkest corners of displacement, and her innocence reminded all who met her of the beauty and fragility of life. Though her time with us was brief, her impact is lasting. Her story must be told, not only to honor her memory but to call attention to the urgent need for compassion, aid, and justice.

    A Call for Change

Her family, like many others in Gaza, lives in overcrowded and unsafe conditions, with limited access to food, clean water, and medical care. The humanitarian blockade has left essential supplies stranded, and aid organizations struggle to reach those in need.

    Our Condolences

To Roa’s family, we extend our deepest condolences. May you find strength in the love that surrounds you and peace in the memory of your beautiful child.

    Rest in Peace

Rest in peace, Roa Mashi. Your light will never be forgotten. You deserved a future filled with joy, not suffering.

This is a developing story, and we encourage continued support and action for the people of Gaza, particularly the children who are most affected by this ongoing crisis.
