The Dungiven community in Co. Derry, Northern Ireland, is mourning the loss of Maria Goretti Boyle, who passed away peacefully at Causeway Hospital on August 11, 2025. Known for her quiet dedication, strong faith, and life of service, Maria Goretti touched the lives of her family, friends, and parish community.

    Life and Legacy

Born into a large, close-knit family, Maria Goretti was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie Boyle. She was predeceased by her brother Colm and is survived by her siblings: Anne (Sr. Maria Corona – Loreto Order), Mary, Sarah, Veronica, Phonsie, Margaret Rose, and Dolores. Her family remembers her for her warmth, loyalty, and unwavering care, qualities that reflected her strong values.

For many years, Maria Goretti served as housekeeper to Reverend A.P. O’Reilly, carrying out her role with devotion, discretion, and humility. Those who knew her speak of a woman of unshakable faith, quiet strength, and selflessness. Her life was a testament to kindness, whether in her work within the parish or through charitable acts in the community.

    Funeral Arrangements

A private wake will be held for close family and friends. The Requiem Mass is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Saint Patrick’s Church, Dungiven, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. The family has requested family flowers only, with donations in lieu directed to the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, reflecting Maria Goretti’s lifelong concern for those in need. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live-streamed via the church’s website.

    Honoring Her Memory

Maria Goretti Boyle’s life will be remembered not only for her parish work but also for her gentle spirit, dignity, and quiet strength. She lived a life devoted to faith, service, and love, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

It is important to note that Maria Goretti Boyle is distinct from Saint Maria Goretti, the Italian Catholic saint who died in 1902. Searches for “Maria Goretti Boyle death” may yield results related to the saint, but Maria Goretti Boyle’s life and legacy are uniquely her own.

    Community Tributes

Family, friends, and parish members will gather to celebrate her life, mourning her loss while giving thanks for the values she embodied. Her dedication, faith, and kindness will continue to resonate in the lives she touched, serving as a lasting reminder of a life well-lived in service and love.
