Jillian Michaels Responds to Controversial “Biggest Loser” Documentary

Jillian Michaels, the well-known fitness expert, has spoken out following a new documentary about the popular show “The Biggest Loser” released on Netflix. The three-part series presented a negative view of her time on the show, where she allegedly pushed contestants too hard and even gave them caffeine pills to speed up weight loss.

In a recent interview, Michaels expressed her disappointment with the documentary, describing it as “an egregious lie.” She did not participate in the film and is currently considering whether to take legal action against Netflix, as well as her former co-trainer Bob Harper and the show’s doctor, Dr. Robert Huizenga.

Michaels was a coach on “The Biggest Loser” for a decade, contributing to the show’s success over 18 seasons before leaving in 2014. Although she acknowledges that some mistakes were made during her tenure, she feels many of those decisions were beyond her control.

Reflecting on the documentary, she noted that the original producers were equally upset, feeling the show had been misrepresented. “It’s literally just lie upon lie,” she said.

Michaels mentioned a specific claim made by a contestant from the first season, who stated that after winning, she jumped into his arms and said he made her a millionaire. “There’s no possible way that exchange could have happened,” she argued, pointing out that both of them were mic’d, which would have captured any such conversation.

She clarified that she never trained Rachel Fredrickson, a contestant highlighted in the documentary, and dismissed claims that she provided her caffeine pills. “If caffeine was such a powerful weight-loss tool, it would be everywhere,” she stated.

While discussing her future, Michaels revealed she is in talks with the producers of “The Biggest Loser” to create her own documentary to set the record straight. She is also focused on broader issues involving food and health, indicating her desire to address significant matters in the industry, rather than revisiting her past on reality TV.

As the conversation evolved, Michaels emphasized that she has “zero regrets” about not participating in the documentary, reinforcing her belief that it was filled with falsehoods. “I would have simply lent credibility to something that is an egregious lie,” she concluded.

Michaels has shifted her focus and is eager to make a positive impact in areas that matter deeply to her, such as tackling challenges posed by large corporations in the food and pharmaceutical sectors.
