Johnson Calls Out Newsom’s Anti-Christian Comments

House Speaker Criticizes Gavin Newsom Over Anti-Christian Remarks Following Tragic Shooting

House Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed strong disapproval of California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing him of making “anti-Christian remarks” after the recent shooting incident at a Catholic school in Minnesota, where two children tragically lost their lives.

In his first press conference since lawmakers returned from recess, Johnson highlighted Newsom’s mocking comments regarding the shooting victims. During the attack at the Annunciation Catholic School, 17 people were injured while they participated in morning Mass.

Johnson pointed out that Newsom reacted sharply to a post from White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who condemned remarks made by former White House press secretary Jen Psaki. Psaki criticized the reliance on “thoughts and prayers” without a focus on gun control.

Newsom’s response, in which he stated, “These children were literally praying as they got shot at,” was branded as “sick” by Johnson. He condemned Newsom’s comments as an attempt to gain attention during a painful moment when many are seeking solace in faith.

“It was detestable to ridicule those seeking assistance from God during dark times,” Johnson remarked, emphasizing the need for prayer in the face of tragedy.

The shooting has sparked broader conversations about the underlying issues in society, and Johnson called for an urgent focus on mental health support and empowering law enforcement as part of a comprehensive solution. He lamented the moral decline exemplified by comments like those from Newsom, arguing for renewed prayers and community support amid such sorrowful events.

As the nation mourns, the response from some Democratic leaders, including Newsom and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, has leaned towards calls for gun control measures rather than unity in prayer and healing. The divide in responses illustrates contrasting priorities between parties in addressing the growing concerns around school safety and violence.

Amidst these discussions, many believe that seeking divine guidance will be essential in overcoming the darkness and healing wounds inflicted by such acts of violence.
